What Causes Acne?
by Paul Ghossain
Nearly every one of us has had acne in some part of your lives. Some have had light episodes of acne, whilst others have or still do suffer from heavy doses of it. So what causes acne?
Acne is a skin disease that affects the skin's pores on areas such as the face, back, chest and arms. Studies have shown that acne can vary from mild to severe, as it affects each individual differently. The formation of acne occurs when the skin duct's lining and sebaceous glands are over worked. This in turn causes the duct's lining to shed cells. The cells are then sent to the skin's shell by the sebum. Because the cells are continuously sent to the skin's shell, the duct's lining finally becomes blocked. A plug is therefore formed, and is known as comedo.
Closed comedo occurs when with plug is situated beneath the plane of the skin. This is commonly known as a closed comedo or "whitehead". If the plug penetrates above the plane of the skin, it is called an open comedo or "blackhead"
Acne is a very common problem and affects many teenagers as well as adults in the ages of 25 to 30 years old. Amazingly, with all the advances in the medical field, it is still not really known how acne is developed. What does seem to be agreed upon, is that if your parents or grandparents have or had an acne problem, you too will most likely have the same problem.
There are many treatments on the market to help treat most light cases of acne. However, if you have a serious acne problem, it is advisable that you see your doctor so that he or she can find the best method to treat your acne problem.
